Mommy’s Little Helper – For Parents of Special Needs Kids

Hello friends and welcome to Mommy’s Little Helper Monday here at the OCM. It’s the day of the week that I share a nuggets of wisdom that I’ve managed to gather in my 14 years as a wife and 13 years as a Mom. This week my is specifically targeted to the parent’s of special needs little ones. As all parents can understand life is a roller coaster with all sorts of unexpected twists and turns, but for the parents of special needs children we tend to get an extra loopty loop or two thrown in for good measure. Today I’m going to go over the importance of having, and what is most usually found in, the Mommy Go Bag.

Mommy’s Rant Monday

Hoo boy am I in a mood. Oh wait, sorry, Hello! Welcome to Monday.  New topic today, it’s a Mommy’s rant. I think it’s good to vent every once in a while, it’s healthy, and it keeps me sane. Day 38 – A Melancholy Day

Hello friends and welcome to day 38 of the 365 Days of Blog Marathon here at the Over Caffeinated Mom. I’m having kind of a down day, feeling a bit emotional. It’s been a roller coaster of a week with not one but two trips to the hospital with my son Jamie. For those that don’t know, my Jamie is a special needs child. When he was born he was given three months to live, this past February he turned 13. He is a joy and a treasure and I love him with all my heart. Having a child like Jamie is a challenge, you have good days and bad days, you try and keep the negative thoughts away, but it’s never easy. Today I’m going to share a poem that was given to me when Jamie was about a year old. It spoke to me in a way that few things I’ve ever read have. I still cry every time I read it. So grab a coffee and a tissue and enjoy.

Day 29 – Mid-Week Rant!

Hello Friends and welcome to day 29 of the 365 Days of Blog Marathon. It’s Topical Thursday here at the Over Caffeinated Mom and I’m going to rant. I’m not sure how this works in other parts of the world but this is new to me and I’m getting a little sick and tired of the education system treading on parental territory. The topic this time is Sex Education in the Classroom. Now let me preface this rant by saying I don’t disagree with sex education in schools. I think it’s healthy and normal and overall a good idea. What I am having trouble with is the AGE they are proposing to enlighten our children.

3 Things I learned today…

It really should be a food group

Kids are in bed, coffee is made, time for a little bonding time between me and my keyboard. I am a firm believer in learning. You should learn something new every day, whether you want to or not.  If you stop learning, you might as well stop breathing.  This is what I learned today….

1.) After 34 years on this planet people’s complete lack of common can still surpise me. This afternoon my boss sprang for coffee, on the condition that I go out to get it. Fine by me. I get to Timmies (for you non-Canadians that’s Tim Horton’s the Caffeine Church of Canada), walk up to the counter and place my order for FIVE large coffees to go. Now here I must point out I am a normally built humanoid, two arms, to hands, no extra appendages.  The overly cheery cashier makes my coffees, takes my cash, looks me right in the eyes and says “Would you like a tray for those?”, to which I promptly reply “No, thanks. I juggle”.  She got that deer in the headlight look I’m so fond of and just stood there. I waited almost a full minute before letting her off the hook with “As a matter of fact I think I will take a tray thank you.”
